Knife Block Set

Brief

• Understanding where 'raw' materials comes from helps a designer to see how they may be used with a sensitivity to their properties, qualities and the associated environmental impact of their use.
• This project involves using an unprocessed material, with the challenge of thinking creatively about how it can be used.
• The assignment involves adding or removing material from a single wooden stick which has been freshly cut.
• Using these processes has made the stick a more useful and desirable object.
• Creating the Knife Block Set has given the original stick a new function of a high-quality standard, which can now be sold in a shop or exhibited in a gallery.
