Bird Table Metropolis
Brief
- If Charles and Ray Eames were to design a bird table...
- Becoming a devoted admirer of the work of famous designers can often inhibit understanding of the design process.
- However, learning and analysing the work of others can be beneficial.
- Placing a designer's work in the context of its time and use, and attempting to understand the principles behind an object's design, can reveal much to an aspiring designer.
Charles & Ray Eames were at the forefront of using new materials and processes.
This design was based around Charles & Ray Eames 'House of Cards'. The design is fun, innovative, sculptural and luxurious. It has simple colours but is unique and intriguing.
This bird table offers shelter to flocks of birds. The two sides of the table join together around a tree. The table section, the rooves, the entrances to each house and the struts holding the bird table to the tree are made from carbon fibre.
The rest of the bird shelter is made from copper and aluminium. These materials have been chosen for their lightweight, strong and durable properties and they produce a modern and visually pleasing aesthetic.
